Young People

Are you aged 14-24 years old? We have some important news for you…

It is important that young people have the time to chat to their doctor about their health. An annual health check with your doctor can help! The University of Melbourne is aiming to support these health checks….

What should I do if I want a health check?

  • Think about any health questions or concerns you might have.
  • Where do you normally get answers to your health questions? Friends? Social media? Sometimes this information may not be exactly accurate!
  • Your GP or nurse can give you medically accurate information and talk to you about health matters important to you.
  • The goal is to identify any health issues now that might impact your well-being in the future.

What will happen at the health check?

  • If your general practice provides a health check, it may take up to an hour.
  • Depending on what you chat about, the GP may order some tests or work with you to figure out the best plan.

Anything else I need to know?

  • These health checks are part of a study by the University of Melbourne to try to improve the health of young people like yourself.
  • During a study, data about your visit to the GP will be collected by a research team.
  • Don’t worry: the data will be de-identified (which means that the University of Melbourne won’t receive any personal information like your name, date of birth, or address).
  • You can always let your GP or a staff member know if you have any questions or concerns about this data collection.
